Edgard Cornacchione

Accountant, independent auditor and accounting expert with over 30 years of professional experience as an executive, advisor and consultant, committed to interventions aimed at the development and strengthening of organizations and people. He has worked with the topics of accounting, finance, organizational development, governance, performance models, risk matrix, internal controls, compliance and digital transformation. Partner (and technical manager) of auditing, accounting and consulting companies, as well as an investor in the technology sector, Cornacchione has extensive professional experience in the manufacturing, energy, banking, insurance, commodities, oil & gas, automotive, transportation, mining, chemical, wholesale, education, construction, beverages, health and services sectors.

In Brazil, he currently serves as the General Controller of the University of São Paulo (USP), having been president of the Institute of Accounting, Actuarial and Financial Research Foundation (FIPECAFI), after having served as chairman of the board (now back to his position as a lifetime board member). He was also a board member of the Foundation for Supporting the Accounting and Sustainability Pronouncements Committee (FACPCS) and a member of the Fiscal Council of CIETEC. He has served as a judicial expert in the Courts of Justice of the States of São Paulo, Paraná, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Norte, as well as a technical assistant. In the United States, he currently serves as a member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), an entity that brings together the world’s professional accounting bodies, and is a member of the research committee of the American Accounting Association (AAA) – the only foreign member. While abroad, he was a founder of the Union of Business Schools of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (UEN-PLP), and has served as a board member of the International Association of Accounting Education and Research (IAAER). Author of books and book chapters focused on accounting and organizational management, as well as more than 170 scientific articles in the accounting area, Cornacchione is the leader of the Expert, Forensic and Technological Investigations Group (PERFORT, CNPq) and the president of the Technology & Business EDGE Center at USP.

Cornacchione is a Full Professor of Accounting at the University of São Paulo, where he has been a faculty member since 1992. He holds the title of Professor in Controllership and Accounting from the University of São Paulo, where he also obtained his Doctorate, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting. He obtained his second doctorate (Ph.D.) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA) in the area of ​​Human Development. In the United States, he underwent training and certifications at Harvard Business School, Singularity University and Lominger/Korn-Ferry.

Recognized for his professional reputation in the accounting field, he was awarded the prestigious Frederico Herrmann Jr. Medal by the CRC-SP. He holds the title of Emeritus Accountant by the Accountants’ Union of the State of São Paulo, is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Accounting (seat 81) and a member of the São Paulo Academy of Accounting (seat 23). In the United States, he received the Innovation Award from the American Accounting Association (AAA), and three academic merit awards: “Monica Lee” (AHRD), “Boeing Scholars” (BOEING) and “William Bagley Award” (UIUC).
